Junior-Sized Fitness Tracking
September 16, 2010 by Jenn
A few weeks ago over on Fit Bottomed Girls, we reviewed a cool little goal-setting and fitness tracking tool called the fitbook. Well, I loved the darn thing so much for adults that I was ecstatic when I learned that the company also has a fitbook for the wee ones! A fitbook junior!
The 12-week journal is a place for kids ages 5 to 12 to write down their activities and food, along with their school and home tasks (homework and chores, anyone?), all within the framework of a three-step planning system that helps set goals, establish healthy habits and earn rewards. A parent or a teacher acts as a coach, helping kids to set “big” 12-week goals, establish smaller weekly goals and then track their progress on a daily basis. Each day the child and coach track their activity, what they had to eat and how it made them feel (depicted with smiley faces), a nutrient tracker that measures food groups, fats, water and vitamins, and—my fave part—a daily star tracker where the coach places a star sticker for using the book daily. No matter your age, stickers are awesome. (They should totally incorporate stickers into the adult version!)
With the childhood obesity epidemic being so depressing these days, it’s awesome to see a product that encourages kids in a fun way to eat right and be active. Plus, it teaches kiddos how to set goals and rewards from a young age. Bonus!

I would love one for my son, we are both trying to be more fit. The fit junior sounds like it would meet our needs. Thank you!
I have the Fit Book for adults and LOVE it. I know my 6 yr. old would love the Jr. Thanks for the chance.
We want it!!! lol This is great!!! This would really come in handy for my 6yr old. I home school him and it would be great for him to keep track of his daily PE! And the Fitbook will be great for my 4 older kids as well as myself.
wow, that is pretty cool. my sister in law has gotten a lot more health conscious the last couple years and it’s funny to see it rub off on my nephew. it’s not normal to hear a 7 year old ask how many calories are in something he’s eating, haha. but i think it’s great that this is one more step in the direction of getting a hand on child hood obesity!
fitlosophy is a great company!! i just recently discovered them and highly recommend all their products!! I think it is great there is a junior book out now, and an amazing tool to help kids be, stay, or become fit!! Nothing beats a fit lifestyle and being able to share this journal with someone is a great way to pay it forward! We must tackle and overcome childhood obesity!
The Fit Book is awesome! I’ve used them for a year now and we’ve just starting getting our kids into tracking healthy foods they eat but what a great way through a fit book junior. I’m thinking what an awesome stocking stuffer (for my kids and the rest of the family)!!
Wow! Looks really cool. I think I as well as my daughter would reallylike and use this book
The fitbook is great. Love the idea of the fitbook junior. I would have loved something like this when I was younger.
My almost 8yo wants one of these journals. He saw me checking out the website. He’s a super pickey eater and I wonder if it would help him try more foods.
What a GREAT tool for kids to express their thoughts, goals, and keep track of what they are putting into their bodies!! I have four children ages 3,7,9 and 10 – from day one we have taught them the importance of leading a healthy active life. We talk every night about what is on our dinner plates and always encourage them to make healthy choices and listen to their bodies. I feel this is something that needs to be taught early in life in order to make it a “lifestyle”. Lead by example!!
I would love to try this out with my son. This would be great to have to work on mini goals of trying new fruits and veggies:-)
This is a great learning tool for developing healthy habits. As a personal trainer for over 20 years I have used several different fitness and nutrition logs over the years. My 6 year daughter and I use her favorite pad of the week to track her info. She plays the trainer and I am the client. This would be a great addition to our role play and learning behaviotrs.
This sounds awesome! Both my girls are prediabetic and have weight trouble as a result of that. My son is underweight and has his dietary and fitness goals that are totally different from theirs. I’d love to try this for them. Sounds awesome!!
my daughter loves to train with me as I prepare for 5ks, and my most recent adventure the Irongirl Duathlon. would be great for her to set her own goals.
This is a fantastic giveaway! I jot down my food intake, calories, exercise every day and my son is sooo interested in what it’s all about. He goes on walks with me and chooses a banana over junk food!
This is a great thing for all children. My children see me writing in my journal everyday. They understand it is a great way to see your day with food and excercise and track goals. They have seen major changes in their mother and see how happy I have been since making major changes and writing/being accountable in my journal. I am training to run a half marathon and once my daughter’s asthma is undercontrol she will be training also. This journal would be a great way for her to track that journey!
Oh, yes, please! My daughter would LOVE this! She loves journals and goals and things she can fill out! YES!!
Would love to try it with my daughter. Also would love more info (I work at a school and I am starting up school wide fitness challenge for students and staff)
