Celebrate S’mores With This Healthy Twist!
Ah, s’mores. A necessity for camping. And for me, it was the one pregnancy craving that I couldn’t deny. But eating s’mores on a daily basis might not be the healthiest option, whether you’re expecting or not. So when Nature Valley’s recipe for a healthier s’more hit my inbox, I knew I had to share with fellow s’mores lovers so that you could celebrate the treat’s national holiday. (Technically, it was Aug. 10, but when it comes to celebrating s’mores, you just gotta live it up even if you’re a couple of days late.)
The Nature Valley version couldn’t be easier: Simply place a toasted marshmallow between two Nature Valley Granola Thins (Dark Chocolate flavor) to create a snack that’s sure to please. For an extra twist, you can drizzle chocolate syrup on top. Cah-razy!
The Nature Valley squares each have 80 calories, so you’re packing in at least 160 calories pre-marshmallow, compared to a regular s’more, which clocks in at only 139 cals for the whole shebang. However, in this version, you get whole grains for some stick-to-your-ribs snack staying power.
Other ideas we love from Nature Valley? Three of our faves:
Strawberry Cream Cheese & Strawberries—Pair fresh strawberries and strawberry cream cheese with a Nature Valley granola bar to mix things up for breakfast.
Peanut Butter & Raisin—Simple and satisfying, a raisin and peanut butter topping on a Nature Valley granola bar makes for a wholesome mid-day snack. Sliced apple works just as well.
Granola Kabobs—Chunks of Nature Valley Sweet & Salty granola bars with fresh fruit on a popsicle stick or a child-safe skewer? Voilà—a nutritious and edible art project for kids.
Yum. I pretty much always have the Nature Valley PB granola bars on hand at home, so I’ll have to add the Granola Thins to my grocery list for my s’mores-making! Anyone else going to celebrate? —Erin
