Kuru Shoe Review…and a Pair for You!

Kuru shoe review

The Kuru Aalto Chukka may have a crazy name, but it's super comfy!

I may have mentioned it a time or two, but I’m not the most fashion-forward mama on the block. When running errands, especially with a kiddo, I opt for comfort and function over fashion. I’m a tennis shoe or Chucks kind of girl. I’m clumsy enough, especially during pregnancy, without giving myself an extra few inches of height with a stiletto.

So when the footwear company KURU sent me its Aalto Chukka shoe to try, I was in. A non-tennis shoe that I could run errands in? Sign me up!

Designed for travel, walking and light-duty hiking, the shoe stacks up nicely to the comfort of my regular kicks. While the rubber sole can make them feel slightly clunkier than a more fashionable shoe, it’s the rubber that also helps make them super comfortable and sturdy—a great shoe for the varying fall and winter weather. The rubber is also an eco-conscious choice; the company values making sustainable, earth-friendly choices.

The soft suede upper takes the shoe up a style notch from sneakers, but the sockliner custom molds to your feet and is designed for arch support for a healthy stride. I have a high arch, and these worked out great for me. With a price of just over $100, they’re a splurge for most, but the holidays are coming up, so you can always give a special someone a hint! If you’re a more serious hiker, you have to check out the more durable Kruzr II shoe ($89.97). There’s something about this orange shoe that screams “I kick ass.”

Want to try out this KURU shoe? Comment below for the chance to win a pair! Winners will be notified in about a week; U.S. residents only, please. Good luck! —Erin

I have just had surgery on my foot. Looking for a pair of shoes that give comfort and some style. I believe these just might do it!

  2. Kathryn says:

I’m almost 7 months pregnant and I would LOVE a pair of shoes that I can just put on and go! My feet swell up when I go out because the shoes I wear are just slip on and not really built for comfort..

  3. SinnerElla says:

These look super cool and I would love to have a pair of semi-nice shoes. My whole closet is 2 pair of tennis shoes, a pair of chucks and heels that I will probably never wear again. (They were only $6, so no big loss. LOL)

  4. Katie says:

Having a BIG 6 month old (22 lbs) and working full time in a spa leaves my back and feet pretty beat up. It would be nice to try a new pair of kicks that don’t look like orthopedic Frankenstein shoes.

  5. Katie H. says:

I’m like you, usually wearing my running shoes out for errands with my 5 month old daughter. I would love something just as comfy, but much more stylish. I’ve seen Kuru shoes before but they’re always out of our budget, this would be a wonderful gift to myself!

SO excited to hear that these work for those of us with high arches! I usually end up wearing my running shoes because most casual tennis shoes don’t feel supportive enough to me. I would love to try these!

  16. Melissa Walker says:

These shoes look great for my three careers as a 1.mom 2.nurse and 3.kettlebell and boot camp instructor. I love the design and minimalist sole.

I have 2 pair of Kuru’s, can’t live without them, one orange and one pair is black. They have made me so happier, my feet were killing me before I got these. 33. Vickie McClellan-Benson says:

I love my other Kuru shoes, but I’ve nearly worn them out. They are so comfy on very hard to fit feet that I refuse to get out of them. A nicer looking pair would suit those times when my old ones aren’t really appropriate (but I wear them anyway!)

  34. Patti Fernandez says:

Hi I’d love to try these shoes. I’ve suffered from Plantar fasciitis for over a year and a half. I’ve had several injections and a few months ago was in a cast for a month. Needless to say I’m looking for some shoes that will give my feet good arch support and that don’t further aggravate my pf. I hope I can win a pair..

Everyone will be asking me about my shoes.

    Thanks.

  42. Cee says:

These look fantastic! I tend to wear a pair of skater-type shoes that I’ve had forever, just because the color scheme appealed to me. I didn’t realize that they did not represent my personality in any way ;)

  43. Soaring Spirit says:

My Kuru’s have been the ultimate match for my spirit and my feet. Plantar Fascietis is gone with Kuru’s! , My body ,mind, and feet can go anywhere with energy ,pizzazz, and style! I so want the Aalta Chukkas for a warm mainstay in my winter wardrobe!

  50. Eileen Otto says:

I have plantar fascitis (both feet) and I am tired of only wearing New Balance white tennis shoes (with custom orthotics) for the last year. I am amazed that I can not find a more fashionable shoe (black) to wear and have been unable to find a local shoe store that sells fashionable shoes for the masses of women that have this problem. I would love to try your shoes out and would give you tons of feedback. I am very active and do not mind wearing my tennis shoes to the gym or in the summer with shorts but out to dinner? IT IS EMBARESSSING and I am very surprised that a shoe manufacture has not leapt to capture this huge market!

  51. Beth says:

I have been looking at these shoes for a very long time and really want the Kruzr II when they get more in stock. It would be great to win a pair.

  52. My wife bought a pair of Kuru shoes this year to help with her plantar fasciitis. She’s on her feet all day for her at work at the Animal Rescue League in Boston, MA, and these were just the cure. I was under the impression they were made for women only, but to my delight I was wrong! I have massive shoe envy and would love for us to be a “Kuru Couple” on the streets of Boston!! Fingers crossed to win a pair!!

  53. Debbie Angell says:

Kuru did it! I went shopping all day yesterday and today my feet are not sore!
I have plantar fasciitis that flares up once in a while, like after shopping all day. I have been wearing the new Aalto Chukka shoe for about a month and my feet feel great. I especially love the rubber bottoms on these shoes. I would love to try the Kruzr to see of those are just as comfy!

  76. Melissa says:

These shoes would be great to wear while running around campus or taking my teenage son all over town. I recently left a great job for promises of another job that didn’t work out and oddly, I found myself back in college at 35 years old. Being a single mom and trying to manage a mortgage without a job has been difficult and Christmas is going to be thin this year. It’s ok though, I’m a kick-butt woman who can do anything (as all women can when we set our minds to it)…super women need super shoes! Happy Holidays everyone!

  77. Sylvia says:

These look great – comfy, cute and different! I hate lacing up sneakers. I get strange looks for wearing flip-flops in January. Loafers aren’t happy on my wide boats. Need I say more?

Now just small tasks like grocery shopping give me so much pain that I wince with every step. I found the Kuru site while researching shoes that might help my situation until I get health insurance and see a podiatrist! In the meantime, I’ll keep eyeing the Kuru shoes, and hopefully get the chance to buy a pair after the holidays! I really am hopeful after reading other reviews that they would provide at least some relief! Happy Holidays!!

I am on my 3rd pair of orthotics and my feet still aren’t comfortable. Finding shoes that fit orthotics have been a nightmare and still working on this. Tired of the tingling and weak knees while I continue to experiment with all of this. Your shoes look great and hope I am selected as one of the recipients pf getting a pair.
