I have been known to chow down on a tasty burger now and again. But the same old burger can be boring, not to mention unhealthy. These healthy burger ideas from the American Council on Exercise are a cure for both! Not to mention they pair nicely with warm weather…
4 Healthy Burger Ideas
1. Spicy turkey burgers with pickled onions. Using turkey in the patty will give burger aficionados a substitute to beef that still serves up the delicious flavor they love but with less calories, fat and cholesterol. Also, turkey actually has more protein than extra lean ground beef. Bonus!
2. Mediterranean portobello burgers. A great vegetarian option, substituting beef with a grilled portobello cap serves up a good amount of protein, while keeping the fat and cholesterol count low.
3. Smoky buffalo burgers. Buffalo meat is filled with mouth-watering flavor but without all the fat found in traditional ground beef. This recipe also adds wild rice to the patty mix, which increases the serving size, adds in additional vitamins and minerals, but helps keep the burger lean.
4. Southwestern beef and bean burger wrap. Still craving a beef burger? This healthy burger alternative is great for kids and adults alike, coming in at less than 400 calories but still filled with good for you protein and fiber.
