We’ve been featuring some of our favorite bloggers this year over on FBG and FBE—those who inspire, motivate and generally kick major fit bottom. We recently sneaked a few questions to Kath Younger from Kath Eats Real Food.
Fit Mom We Love: Kath Younger
If you could have a mom superpower, what would it be? The ability to cover my son with SPF without touching any sunscreen. I hate applying it to the both of us!
What is one thing you loved about being pregnant? Hated? I loved (and miss!) feeling him move inside of me. It was like sharing a secret. I hated the morning sickness and food aversions. As a foodie, losing my appetite for foods I normally loved was really tough. Sometimes when nothing sounded appealing, I just didn’t know what I wanted to eat, and I hated that!
What was your biggest surprise about motherhood? I’m actually surprised at how much it really is what I thought it would be like. Even better maybe. That and that newborns don’t sleep. I still haven’t gotten over that one. I also always heard people say “breastfeeding is hard” but they were never specific about why. Now I understand that in addition to it being painful in the beginning, it is just logistically hard at times and requires a lot more planning than I thought it would.
If you magically had an hour added to your day free of obligations, what would you do with it? Read novels. When I was pregnant, I got into reading in bed every night and read some great books. I’m still catching up on sleep from the first 6 months, so when I get in bed now I am ready to sleep.
Did pregnancy/childbirth change your view of your body and what it’s capable of? How so? Definitely. Childbirth was one of the coolest experiences of my life (growling, throwing-up, tears and all—you can read my birth story here), and I’m amazed that my body seemed to just know what to do. I’m also still in awe of how cool breastfeeding is.
